The Montgomery County Historical Commission’s seventh annual History Road Rally is taking place on Jan. 25. Conroe Community Leader and annual Road Rally participant Pat George, who died on October 19, will be honored at this year’s event.
“He was a long-time friend (of the Commission) and a past City Council member and Mayor Pro-Tem, past president of the Chamber and many, many other things, said Historical Commission Chairman Larry Foerster. He was an annual participant in this, and so we’re going to honor his memory at this event this year.”
The Road Rally is being held at the Conroe Bible Church off I-45 North.
“Every year we have a series of scavenger hunt clues, and teams of people work from 1:30 to 3:30 in the afternoon chasing down clues, filling out question and answer sheets and taking pictures in the front of the clues, so we know they’ve been there.”
Foerster said the participants then gather to enjoy pizza, sodas and water, and they hand out trophies as well as historical road rally buttons.
“It’s great for families and for friends. We’ve had many people who have participated since the beginning. They enjoy it; they get to work through the clues, they go to places and learn things about the County that they never knew existed.”
Foerster said former Montgomery County Sheriff Joe Corley is participating this year in one of the clues.
There will be teams of 2-6 participants per vehicle, and a pre-registration fee of $30 per vehicle. The registration fee is $40 on the day of the event.
