Hope therapy and crisis response dogs and their handlers are trained and certified  to provide emotional comfort and support to people affected by crises and disasters. Hospital District Officials say post-traumatic stress is common among first responders, and their hope is to provide some level of comfort to EMT’S and Paramedics on the holiday and moving forward by working with the HOPE organization. According to hopeaacr.org website, interacting with calm, well-mannered dogs is known to help decrease the heart rate, lower blood pressure and allow people to de-stress in a simple, yet effective way.
