The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office’s third annual Operation Blue Elf was held at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds on Dec. 14, and 1100 kids were provided gifts.

“We have the school counselors identify the children in their areas who they identify as needy, and then they coordinate with us and we provide them with a wrapped gift and the Christmas experience,” said Sheriff Rand Henderson. They come here to the Winter Wonderland, the Christmas Wonderland, and they get to experience the Operation Blue Elf Expo.” We have law enforcement apparatus here; we have a fire truck, an ambulance and we also have an opportunity to sit on Santa’s lap.” It’s just a fun time, and the reason for it all is to build police community relationships.” It’s a great opportunity for us to make friends when they’re young and to instill that trust in law enforcement that’s so badly missing in some communities.”
