The Conroe Professional Firefighters Association on Dec. 10 presented a check for over $43,000 to the Conroe Firefighters Foundation, that was raised through the annual Fire Up the Bands event, that was held over the summer.
The check presentation was held at First Financial Bank, which has been the title sponsor of the Fire Up the Bands event for the past nine years.
“We felt it was the right thing to do to come here with these people because they’ve been involved with our program for a very long time, and they’re our biggest supporters of this Foundation,” said Firefighters Association President Lloyd Sandefer.
Sandefer said the Conroe Firefighters Foundation is their 501c3 that gets the money to do projects and give to organizations, like Coats for Kids, the Montgomery County Livestock Auction and all the different charity things they do throughout the year.
Wendy Baker, First Financial Bank’s Marketing Coordinator, said they started working with the Conroe Professional Firefighters Association nine years ago, when it was “Fill the Boot” with the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
“Through the years, the guys have changed it to local charities, and for one year it was MCYS, which is now Yes to Youth, said Baker. “A few years ago, when they started their Foundation, we had a meeting and we said absolutely, we’d love for this fundraising that they do, and through Fire Up the Bands and all their other stuff to just go directly to the Firefighters Association.” We’re very proud to have them as partners through so many years, and they’re such a great group of guys and have become good friends to us. It’s been a wonderful partnership, and we look forward to this year being the ten year anniversary of Fire Up the Bands.”
