‘Tis the season for giving and that’s why Splendora Police Department is teaming up with the community for the second annual Blue Santa Toy Drive.

“We are asking for new, unwrapped toys as well as gift cards to places such as Wal Mart, Target, Best Buy and Amazon for our teenage students,” said Splendora PD Public Information Officer Monica Enloe.

The gifts will be distributed to students of all ages in Splendora ISD. The only donation not being asked for is Apple product gift cards, because the department can not guarantee the children who receive a gift have Apple products.

“We hope to receive enough donations to assist all the children on the ISD’s list,” said Enloe. “After the flooding from Imelda, there is an especially high number of children this year.”

Community events such as the Blue Santa Toy Drive are part of the ongoing outreach to residents in the community, according to Enloe.

“This department cares deeply about this community and the children we all protect,” she said. “Splendora ISD/PD feels exactly the same, and we all want to work together so that every child possible has a Merry Christmas.”

There are several businesses teaming up with the department to help ensure families in the community have a memorable Christmas.

“RE/MAX – Heritage, Rocking Horse Daycare, and Familytime have all stepped up in a big way. We could not do this without them,” said Enloe. “A very special mention goes to the Splendora Police Officers Association. Through them, your donations can be tax deductible.”

Last year’s first annual Blue Santa Toy Drive was one of the most heartwarming things the department has witnessed, according to Enloe. Many parents cried when they found out they were receiving assistance and there was pure joy on the children’s faces when officers showed up.

“There is a sense of family here, and I find our community pulls together for the holiday season,” said Enloe.

The City of Splendora Police Department is accepting toy and gift card donations seven days a week between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 26092 FM 2090 until December 13.

Donations can also be dropped off at RE/MAX – Heritage or Rocking Horse Daycare.
