Don entered UCLA on an athletic scholarship to study engineering. While attending a Youth for Christ Rally where Billy Graham was speaking, he was saved. Don felt God’s call to leave UCLA and attend BIOLA to immerse himself in learning God’s word. Following graduation from seminary in 1957, he was ordained as a minister at Venice Baptist Church. Don received his Master’s in Church Growth and Cultural Anthropologies, and completed his Doctoral Studies in Missiology from Talbot Theological Seminary. Don had a deep and great conviction to spread the word of God to the nations. While at BIOLA, Don confirmed his calling to be a missionary while on a summer mission trip with a group of BIOLA students to the Kentucky Mountains. Don and Barbara were married in 1955. In 1959 they joined AIM (Africa Inland Mission) making a total of 7 trips to Africa. During his early years of mission work, he was responsible for planting numerous churches which have grown 10 fold in number. He also taught in Bible Schools and conducted church growth seminars so as to train young men and women to minister to their communities and plant churches. In the later years, he and Barbara also worked for the Institute of Tribal Studies at the US Center of Missions. Don and Barbara retired from AIM in 2001 to Pharr, Tx, and were very active at the First Baptist Church of McAllen until Barbara went to be with her Lord and Savior in 2008. Don married Beverly Frick in 2009 and joined her in Conroe, TX. While a member of West Conroe Baptist Church he and Beverly went to Israel, were active in the prayer room and Bethlehem City.
