From the Splendora ISD:
Last month, the Splendora community was asked to give suggestions for a new elementary school name. Dale Martin’s name was one that was overwhelmingly suggested. Dale was so many things to the community. He was a coach, a principal, a mentor, and a friend. He loved Splendora and the Wildcats. Administrators discussed with the family of Dale Martin what they thought would be the best way to honor him and his connection to the entire district and community. It was decided that an elementary school didn’t fully encompass all that Dale meant to us. Suggestions on what will be named in honor of Dale will be brought to the Board in December and then shared with the community.
As for the new elementary school, it will be named Timber Lakes Elementary School. In the drone video, you can see that there are several lakes leading up to the school and the new subdivision will have a woodland, big-timber feel. This name also more closely aligns with the District’s other elementary schools and Splendora’s name origin of “the splendor of its flora and fauna.”
We appreciate the community’s input and will share what is decided on how to honor Dale Martin’s legacy. And as Dale would say, “It’s a great day to be a Wildcat!”
