Gertie Mae Wheeler


Gertie Mae Wheeler, 87, of Baytown, passed away Saturday, November 16th at St. James Nursing Home. She loved to fish and go crabbing. She enjoyed crocheting, and making quilts. She made any size potholder you could imagine. She was a handful in many ways. She loved to get in her car and go visit friends and family well into her 80’s. Gertie was the best cook ever. She made great chicken and dumplings, gravy, and guacamole. She was a rebel rouser to the end, organizing a clean window campaign at her nursing home where she lived. Gertie was really crazy about her family. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Dwain Wheeler; daughter, Candace Maust; and parents, Ernest and Roxy Jones; and 7 brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her children, Joycelyn, Marie and husband, Danny, Donna, Eugene, Lynda, Mark and wife, Dee, and Ben; brother, Waylon Jones; sisters-in-law, Patsy Jones, Margaret Carr, and Patsy Jones; 24 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at McNutt Funeral Home on Thursday, November 21, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 22 at McNutt Funeral Home, officiated by Reverend Ronnie Roach. Interment will follow at Conroe Memorial Park.
