Bus carrying Huntsville freshman football team crashes, minor injuries reported, DPS says

Montgomery County Pct. 1 Constable's Office provided this photo of the rollover accident involving a Huntsville ISD bus.

A school bus carrying 22-23 people, members of the Huntsville ISD freshman football team and their coaches, was involved in a single-vehicle rollover accident on FM 1791 near Taliaferro Road.

Only minor injuries are being reported at this time, said DPS Sgt. Erik Burse.

“The bus was traveling to Montgomery for a football game this afternoon when it was involved in the accident. The bus driver overcorrected as he was approaching a curb and rolled the bus over on its side,” Burse said.

All students were taken to Conroe Regional Medical Center for medical evaluation as a precaution, Burse said.

This week has been a tough one for the Montgomery and Huntsville school districts after the varsity football team for Montgomery was forced to forfeit its Friday night game after an alleged off-campus hazing incident.
