Janet Irene Linkenheld Murphy, 84, of Conroe, Texas, passed away peacefully after a sudden illness on October 7, 2019.

Janet was born on September 11, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois; the only daughter to Edmund and Olivia (Blonigen) Linkenheld.

Janet graduated from Academy of Our Lady in 1953. After graduation, she attended business school and worked in the downtown Chicago business sector as a young single woman. Janet married John Cusack Murphy on April 25, 1959 at St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church in Chicago. Once Janet and John began their family, she left her downtown job and they moved to the suburbs to focus on raising their four sons. In 1976 Janet and John moved the family to Conroe where she worked for First Federal Savings and Loan for many years.

Mom was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and generously devoted her time to her family. She was an avid cook and pie baker. She also enjoyed knitting, reading, playing bunco with her girlfriends and spending time on Lake Conroe where they moved after retirement. Once retired, Jan and John pursued travel and took many trips throughout the years all over the US and Canada. John was a Marine and he and Janet looked forward each year to traveling to Marine/Navy Reunions throughout the US. She was a doting grandmother and looked for any opportunity to spoil her grandchildren. Janet and John were members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church since moving to Texas in 1976 and she was an active volunteer, serving the Parish in various organizations over the years. In her later years she enjoyed playing bingo and socializing with her friends in the communities of the Conservatory at Alden Bridge and Woodhaven Village in Conroe.

Janet is preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 58 years, John Murphy.

Janet leaves behind her four sons and their families, Terry and Janice Murphy of Montgomery, Texas; Brian and Trish Murphy of London, Texas; Marty and Angie Murphy of Montgomery, Texas; James and Jamie Murphy of Conroe, Texas: grandchildren, Garrett Murphy, Mason Murphy, Chase and Devin Murphy, Meghan Murphy, Faith Murphy, Thomas Pope, Ashley Coker, Justin Coker, and Josiah Green; great grandchildren, Thomas and Katherine Pope; brothers, Robert Linkenheld; Edmund and Karen Linkenheld; special cousin/sister, Jerry Shanahan; sister-in-law, Sharon Murphy and numerous nieces and nephews.
