Teen charged in fatal shooting of his stepbrother at home in Spring

Detectives with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s office say they believe the fatal shooting of Romaz Craddock, 17, of Spring, on Wednesday evening was an accidental shooting. The suspect is Craddock’s stepbrother, Justice Forney, also 17.

When questioned, Forney cooperated with detectives, and evidence, along with eyewitness testimony, indicates this was an accidental shooting, authorities say.

Forney was charged with tampering with evidence due to him allegedly discarding the firearm in a nearby dumpster after the shooting. The firearm used did not belong to the homeowner and was brought to the home by Forney.

Detectives determined the firearm was reported stolen through the Harris County Sheriff’s Office and are currently working with that agency on the recovery of the firearm.

The case will be referred to a Montgomery County Grand Jury when completed.

The shooting happened at around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday night at a home at 810 Rayford Road.

Officials with the Sheriff’s Office said Forney was handling a firearm while Craddock was in the bathroom. While handling the firearm, it discharged through the bathroom door, striking Craddock in the torso. Craddock was taken to Memorial Hermann-The Woodlands, where he later died.
