He started his career at Southwestern Bell (now AT&T) in May 1979 and just celebrated his 40th year of service this May. He moved to Houston Texas in 1982 where he met Mary Shirk and they had two children Kathryn “Katie” and David Hlavacek.
Greg had a vivacious life which was never boring, constantly going out and finding new places to see and experience. Always trying new foods, with Cajun one of his favorite. His passion was always adventure, cooking, traveling around and exploring. He was an avid high school sports fan and traveled around every Friday night to watch local high school football games.
He would always take his kids on trips around the country and in total visited 32 states. He knew all the back roads and was the best personal travel guide. It brought him much joy to see his children experience the sites of Mt. Rushmore, the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone Park and many, many more. They even followed the Lewis and Clark trail on one of their adventures. Every place the family went it was always a fun journey. They experienced canoeing, river rafting and even rock climbing, among other things.
Greg was a kind and generous person. He always had toys on hand for the grandkids. He was often referred to as a Wikipedia, always able to remember everything he would do and read. A great enthusiast of diversified music. Every year he would always travel to Austin, Texas for the biggest music festival South by Southwest (SXSW).
Greg will be missed by his companion Priscilla, brother Bill (wife Laura), daughter Katie (husband Kenneth), and son David, granddaughter Emma, as well as niece and nephew Carson Hlavacek, Janae Hlavacek.
